The two bedrooms situated at the front of the house have queen-sized beds. In addition there is a third bedroom with two king-single beds which can be converted into a king-sized bed.

The cottage is fully furnished to suit business visitors and holiday makers alike and we are happy to service it weekly and provide fresh linen and towels, or they are available from the laundryroom whenever you need them.

To the rear of the cottage is a spacious covered area, complete with a gas BBQ and outdoor furniture. The laundry is equipped with a washing machine and a dryer. Like all old Fremantle houses there is an outdoor toilet in the corner of the block, in addition to the internal one.

The nearby beach offers enthusiastic fishermen the chance to catch a variety of fish. It is also a great sailboarding area.

There is an extensive range of reasonably priced restaurants and cafes in the adjacent streets.

We are able to offer the use of a porta-cot and high chair free of charge, should they be required.

This is non-smoking accommodation - please respect our request and only smoke outside - thank you.

History

Mole End with the original weatherboard after the removal of the fake brick cladding

Mole End Cottage was originally built in 1898 as a two-roomed iron house. It was occupied by a lime burner who would have worked in the old lime kilns that were recently discovered south of the cottage in Coogee. It was there that local limestone would have been burnt to produce lime which, when mixed with sand and water, created a mortar that was used in the construction of many of Fremantle's original buildings.

The iron shack was later replaced by a timber-framed weatherboard cottage typical of hundreds of homes built in Fremantle in the early 20th century. The cottage was "modernised" in the 60's with fake brick cladding and an aluminium tiled roof. The recent (2002) restoration of the cottage saw all of this removed and the house brought back to its original design as a simple workman's cottage with pine floors, iron roof and sash windows. The modern kitchen and backroom were added by the incorporation of an adjacent outbuilding.
